Description
Physical description
badge
A green woollen rectangle in centre of which embroidered in yellow / gold the serif letters CPC, with no stops between letters.
Label
This is the 4 Division badge with the Canadian Postal Corps initials embroidered over. Worn by a very small sub-unit at Divisional HQ.
The wool construction might suggest a date before the end of 1942 but the gold lettering indicates a date some time after January 1943.
In March 1941 CPC had received permission for white letters on 1 Corps and 1 & 2 Division signs. In January 1943 First Canadian Army advised the CPC that gold letters should be used and that these would be adopted when printed patches became available after November 1942. Presumably this was an attempt to bring the CPC into line with the majority of corps and service troops and non-brigaded units whose distinctions were in gold (Signals and Engineers were exceptions).
