solid brass badge bearing the Arms of the City of Cardiff: two small scrolls with the mottos, above the city arms : 'DEFFROMAE'N DYDD' (translated as 'Awake! It is day') and below the city arms: 'Y DDRAIG GOCH DDYRY GYCHWYN' ('The Red Dragon shall lead') and another larger scroll underneath with the title 'CARDIFF'.
The Battalion was raised by the Lord Mayor and the Corporation of Cardiff in November 1914. It served with 38th (Welsh) Division and was disbanded in February 1918. The badge was worn as a collar badge by the first 1,000 recruits to the battalion.
