History note

This 'third pattern' Kaufmann does not correspond to the description in Bruce & Reinhart's 'Webley Revolvers'. It incorporates the 'WG' type stirrup barrel latch, but it also incorporates the Pryse-type cylinder retaining pin (also noted on FIR 1964), and its Kaufmann number is considerably outside the range 1245 to 1316 indicated by Bruce. The Webley serial number does not appear on the barrel lug, but is concealed under the left grip plate. There appears to be no correlation between the Kaufmann number and the serial number on Kaufmann revolvers.
