History note
First World War period (post-1918) British Army unit sign associated with No 1 Army Auxiliary Horse Company, Royal Army Service Corps (RASC). This sign was donated to the Museum by British Army GHQ in 1925.
Note that the National Archives holds a First World War War Diary relating to '1 Army Auxiliary Horse Transport Company (425 Company ASC), see reference WO95/265.
(The Army Service Corps was granted the title 'Royal' in 1918).
Physical description
Square metal sign (11 x 12in) with cropped corners and painted with black horse jumping yellow gate on red field. The sign is mounted on a wooden display board ( not part of original).
