Label

British First World War 18pdr HE ('high explosive) fixed round, for use with the 18pdr QF Mk I Field Gun. Comprising an 18pdr Mk II shell, made in 1917, fixed to an 18pdr Mk II cartridge case, made in 1915. Known as a 'fixed round', in so far as the cartridge case and shell are assembled and handled as one unit. This leads to faster loading and in addition, the cartridge case also acts a seal against propellant gas losses, thereby increasing the efficiency of the weapon.
