This shortened version of the Italian Model 1870 bayonet was issued during the First World War for use with the Model 1870/87/15 rifle (see FIR 8150). The bayonet was a simple conversion of the Model 1870 bayonet (see WEA 67), with the blade shortened and the forward quillon roughly cut-off. This gave the weapon similar dimensions to the standard issue Model 1891 bayonet of the period (see WEA 597).
