Object description

image: a scene of devastation after a German air raid on Étaples. A dead British soldier lies on the ground in the foreground, blood stains evident on his uniform. He lies amidst hundreds of splintered planks of wood that have come from the bomb damaged wooden huts that line the background of the composition. The arm of another dead man emerges from the wooden debris, his body buried under the planks.
