NURSES OF THE FIRST WORLD WAR
Nurse Lily Cope MBE. She was a night charge nurse of Ambulance Room at shell factory in Lancaster when serious fire and explosion broke out. Nurse Cope stayed with an injured man for 6 and 1/2 hours in the factory grounds and later had him removed to Lancaster Infirmary. She later married and became Mrs Messenger.
