Object description

'Able Mabel', otherwise know as Lancaster III ND458/HW-A of No 100 Squadron, had completed 121 operational sorties when this photograph was taken on 2 April 1945 at Waltham, Lincolnshire. Her skipper, Flight Lieutenant J D Playford, RCAF, shakes hands with Sergeant W Hearn, flanked by other members of the aircraft's regular ground crew. They are LAC J Cowls and Corporal R Withey, on the left, with LAC J Robinson and AC J Hale, on the right.
