Men, women and children queue for fish along High Road, Wood Green, London. The long queue snakes its way past several other shops, including 'J Wood' the greengrocer and 'Jolly', which sells "cooked provisions ready for the table", such as pies, pastry and sandwiches. Many of the women carry sheets of newspaper which will be used to wrap the fish. Several other people can be seen queuing for the bus on the left of the photograph.
