Object description
Twelve-year-old Jean Devereux reads a book she received as a Christmas present at her home in Pinner, as her mother and several of her friends look on. A large teddy bear can be seen to the left of the photograph. The original caption states that this in an old peacetime bear, and was not a Christmas present, as such toys are no longer obtainable. Behind them can be seen the Christmas tree is a present from Mrs Devereux's husband, currently serving in the army overseas. The tree was purchased through the 'Gifts to Home League' of the YMCA, and formed an important part of the Christmas tea party at the Devereux home.
