Object description
Twelve-year-old Jean Devereux smiles for the camera in front of the family Christmas tree, a present from her father, serving in the army overseas. The tree has been purchased through the 'Gifts to Home League' of the YMCA. Jean is holding one of her presents, a book called 'Mary Plain in Wartime'. The Devereuxs have just had a small Christmas tea party with several of Jean's friends at their home in Pinner. A photograph of Trooper Devereux can be clearly seen decorating one of the upper branches of the tree.
