Object description

A view of the large test tank in the Ship Research Department at the National Physical Laboratory in Teddington. The tank is 550ft long, 30ft wide and 12 1/2ft deep. The photograph is taken from the carriage which runs on rails along the length of the tank. The carriage is capable of a maximum speed of 25ft per second. The apparatus used to record data on the model during the test can be seen on the left of the photograph.
