Object description

In the pub in the village of Tomintoul, a group of locals discuss the Ministry of Information film show, held in the Memorial Hall. A poster advertising the screening (due to take place on Monday 22 November at 8pm) can be seen above their heads. According to the original caption, "for weeks before and for weeks after, the MoI film show is the subject of intense discussion". Left to right, the men are: Willie Gordon; Alistair Aitken (the 'souter' or shoemaker); Donald Grant (pipe in mouth); Roland Gordon (the 'Laird', seated) and James Macpherson (smoking a pipe). The barman is James Macleod. Just visible behind Mr Macpherson is Jock Smith, poking his head through the bar window. The calendar behind the bar indicates that it is November 1943.
