A group of men stand at the bar of the Merchant Navy Club in Bedford Square, London. Waiting to take their order is Miss Peggy Witham, of Peckham, London, who worked at the Merchant Navy Club in Rupert Street before joining the hotel staff. Left to right, the men are: First Radio Officer W H Ball from Huddersfield; Mr W Exton, Engineer, from Perth, Western Australia; Mr G Lancaster Smith, hotel manager; and Third Engineer Robert Gibson, from Dundee. The original caption states that Mr Lancaster Smith and Mr Exton are old shipmates.
