Civil Defence rescue workers stand on piles of rubble as they try to dig survivors out of collapsed buildings following a V1 attack in the Highland Road and Lunham Road area of Norwood, London, SE19. Stretcher bearers stand in readiness, should a casualty be brought out. In the foreground, piles of timber can be seen amongst the brick rubble and debris, and to the left, two men can be seen, their spades resting on the rubble, as one lights a cigarette during a break from rescue work. In the background, the remains of half-destroyed houses can be also be seen.
