Mrs Dixon (left) and Mrs Cook work on the assembly of a spring in a 'factory' in an empty house in Shirley, near Croydon. The metal chutes help when passing the job on to the next worker. According to the original caption, Mrs Dixon has two sons in the Army and one in the RAF and Mrs Cook is the wife of a Civil Servant.
