Object description
Women of the Whitehall Canteen wait at the bus stop outside the National Gallery after the canteen has closed for the day. Left to right they are: Mrs Maini-Cooke, Mrs Bobby Kenyon, Mrs Potter, Mrs J P Tullock, Mrs Lubbock, Lady Gater, Mrs A Parnwell. Behind them, Nelson's Column can be clearly seen, as can a Lancaster bomber, set up in Trafalgar Square as part of Wings for Victory Week. Just behind the women, to the left of the photograph, a council worker empties the canteen's pig bin into a cart.
