Men and women eat at rows of tables set up in what was the ornate banqueting hall of Fishmongers' Hall, London Bridge. It is now being used as a canteen by the Londoners' Meals Service. The canteen is self service, with a few members of staff on hand to dish up the hot food. A sign on the mantlepiece at the back of the room states that tea costs 1 1/2 d and coffee costs 2d.
