Object description
The Capture of Iwo Jima, February - April 1945: US Marines plant the 'stars and stripes' on the summit of Mount Suribachi. This was not, strictly speaking the first 'raising of the flag' but the photographer Joe Rosenthal asked the Marines to re-enact the moment for him.
