Object description

As part of the Two Cities Film Company film 'Unpublished Story', being filmed at Denham Studios, a wall has to collapse near to a telephone box in which one of the actors has just made a call. This photograph shows the scene after the wall has fallen very near to the group of actors and the men of the Auxiliary Fire Service and other Civil Defence organisations 'acting' in the film, to make it more realistic. According to the original caption "Smoke and dust fill the air. The players register the shock of their close escape. The cast, all recruits from men who have been through such experiences in actual fact, know well how to re-enact their feelings on this occasion". The film is directed by Harold French and stars Richard Greene and Valerie Hobson. It is set during the Blitz on the London docks in 1940.
