Images in this album include: series entitled The Stage Makes Do following the Make Do and Mend service for the theatre - new designs for costumes are created from exisiting ones (see also album 68), a photograph of a soldiers complete kit issue (D 12618), series entitled Producing Sugar which follows various steps in the process of sugar beet production, including views of beet being used as food for sheep and cattle, large piles of sugar beet, and the milking of cows which have been fed on sugar beet, two portrait photographs of Mr Harold Dunning, two posed MoI photographs of a woman's hand, series entitled Artists and Fighters following 'patients' at Didsbury College Convalescent Home in Manchester, and the art they have produced, including an exhibition of these arts and crafts at the Manchester School of Art, a photograph of a guardsman in Battle order (Scots Guard - see also album 68), guardsman with full kit (D 12670 - see note below), two more photographs from 'Artists and Fighters', series entitled East African Exhibition - photographs of a display about the East Africa campaign in Selfridges windows, series of photographs of the USSR Exhibition at Regent Street, includes a good view of the exterior of the exhibition venue, stating that the exhibition is being held to celebrate 25 years of the USSR and the Red Army, series entitled ATS Girl Gunners at a bleak East Coast Experimental Station includes views of ATS members collecting fired shells from the sand at low tide, using a Mirror Position Finder, dismantling velocity screens, firing 25pdr guns, and looking through a Window Position Finder, photographs of Red Army Day celebrations in Britain - includes views of a concert party held at the Royal Albert Hall, Civil Defence workers queueing up to get in, views of the audience and parades of troops in the streets (see also album 70).
