Object description

Private George Edward Jonas 2178. Unit: 60th Battalion, 4th Reinforcements, Australian Imperial Force. Death: 11 November 1917 Western Front.

 

Private G E Jonas joined the Australian Imperial Force in Victoria, Australia, on 8 May 1916 at the age of 22. He arrived in France on 20 March 1917 and was wounded in action on 18 May 1917. Upon returning to his unit on 3 August he was again wounded in action and died, aged 25, as a result of his injuries on 11 November 1917. He is buried at Étaples Military cemetery.
