Object description

Lieutenant Charles Wilfrid Bennett. Unit: 9th (Queen's Royal) Lancers. Death: Not known.

 

He was commissioned as a Regular Officer in the 9th (Queen's Royal) Lancers and served on the Western Front and in Germany during 1917 - 1919. In 1919 he retired to the Special Reserve but was subsequently recalled to command the Nottinghamshire Yeomanry. Bennett served in the Middle East (Palestine, Persia and Iraq) from 1939 - 1943 during which time he was Mentioned in Despatches. From 1943, he served at the War Office in London and was invalided out of the service in 1946 with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Lt Col Bennett suceeded to a baronetcy in 1945 and became a magistrate. He is buried in Brookwood Cemetery.
