Object description

Low-level oblique photograph taken during the daylight precision attack by 6 De Havilland Mosquitos of No. 613 Squadron RAF on the Dutch Population Central Registry in Scheveningsche Wegg, The Hague, which held Gestapo documentation on Dutch resistance members. The raid, which was led by Wing Commander R N Bateson, Commanding Officer of 613 Squadron, succeeded in destroying the building without the loss of any Dutch lives. The target area is seen here obliterated by smoke and sparks from 500-lb delayed-action HE and incendiary bombs. In the right distance can be seen the tower of the Peace Palace, which suffered a broken window during the raid.
