Object description

Vertical photographic-reconnaissance aerial showing the centre of Kassel following the heavy raid by aircraft of Bomber Command on the night of 22/23 October 1943. This view shows devastated buildings in the vicinity of Konigsplatz and the main railway station, many of which were still burning seven days after the attack. The damage to the railway system, and to industrial and residential buildings, constituted the most devastating attack on a german city since the raids on Hamburg in July 1943.
