The pioneer of naval aviation, Commander Charles R Samson of No 3 Squadron Royal Naval Air Service, who was based at Imbros, Gallipoli and undertook aerial reconnaissance for the campaign. Commander Samson is wearing naval uniform and carrying a pith helmet
