Object description

A photomontage of images from Stalag VIIIb prisoner of war came including a German list of prisoners who escaped from the Camp and featuring the profile of . The montage was created in the camp by Warrant Officer William Lawrence RAF. Lawrence, a trained engineer, carried out clandestine photography in the Camp between August 1942 - February 1945. Lawrence intended this montage was intended to commemorate the work of Judd Lawson (whose prewar portrait is incorporated in the montage). Lawson, a New Zealander captured in Crete, was one of the Army Escape Committee's expert forgers. The montage also features some of the stamps which he carved.
