Object description
image: a full length portrait of a British infantryman in full kit, facing away from the viewer.
Label
The soldier depicted here is Private A McCafferty of the 13th Battalion of the London Regiment, more famously known as
the Kensingtons. This is a study for the appearance of McCafferty, second from the left, in Kennington's painting 'The Kensingtons at
Laventie' (IWM ART 15661). The painting depicts men of No. 7 Platoon, C Company of the Kensingtons after returning from an arduous period
in snowy conditions in the front line near Laventie in northern France. The artist Eric Kennington was himself a member of this platoon and
appears in the finished painting, third from the left.
