Eight tapes of unedited naval material from Operation Grapple (assistance to peacekeeping operations in Bosnia-Herzegovina, 1993).

Full description

(Tape 1) The aircraft carrier HMS Ark Royal at sea on the way to Bosnia-Herzegovina. Flight deck activity with Hawker Sea Harrier aircraft (on windy day) featured.

 

(Tape 2) HMS Ark Royal continues her voyage to the Adriatic for Operation Grapple. Replenishment at sea sequence between HMS Ark Royal and both RFA Fort Grange and RFA Olwen. Sunset scenes. Flight deck rising. Commanding officers pose for the camera, as a group and also individually.

 

(Tape 3) Photex (photographic exercise) recording ships taking part in Operation Grapple, including RFA Olwen, RFA Argus, RFA Fort Grange, HMS Coventry, HMS Brilliant and HMS Ark Royal; there is around two and a half minutes of footage of each ship.

 

(Tapes 4 and 5) Troops and guns etc are transferred by helicopter from RFA Argus to Lathbury Barracks in Gibraltar.

 

(Tape 6) Shots of small arms with pilots on flight deck (ship unidentified) and replenishment at sea with RFA Fort Grange. (17 March 1993)

 

(Tape 7) Scenes in the galley on board the aircraft carrier HMS Ark Royal; also a short interview with Ark Royal's captain and also with Lieutenant King (Pilot, 849 Squadron FAA) and Lieutenant Richards (846 Squadron Royal Marines).

 

(Tape 8) Aerial shots of RFA Fort Grange and HMS Newcastle at anchor. (17 March 1993).
