Full description

The vans are gifts from the USA and the Queen, hence the service's name. Opening shots set scene in a pub during 'alert' - Queen's Messenger Service receives call - staff assigned to different vehicles (stores, kitchens, canteens and water-tanker:- each 'Flying Squad' has 8 vehicles, and a total of 18 squads is planned) - the convoy on the road - arrival at bombed-out town, and establishment of a central base where cooking is done: canteen vans take out soup, sandwiches and tea to outlying areas - scenes of distressed inhabitants of bombed street cheered by arrival of a canteen.
