A London District Special District Order (this copy, No 231, was for use by the Officer Commanding the Irish Guards) by Major General E J B Nelson CB DSO MVO OBE MC, General Officer Commanding London District, giving a detailed record of the organisational planning and preparation for the State Funeral of The Right Honourable Sir Winston Leonard Spencer Churchill KG OM CH (c. 165pp, originally written November 1964, with amendments for the actual funeral, January 1965), with details of the funeral, general instructions, the journey of the coffin and processional route street lining and the troops taking part, minute guns, ceremonial details for the different parts of the procession at Westminster, St Paul's Cathedral, Tower Hill, Tower Pier and Tower Wharf, the journey of the coffin to Bladon, administrative details about dress, drums, colours, concentration areas, assembly / dispersal areas, orders for conferences and rehearsals, distribution lists, and plans / maps of routes and locations.
