An extensive collection of diaries, photographs and scrapbooks relating to his career as a regular officer in the Royal Artillery, 1924 - 1956, covering his service at home and in India with 28th Field Battery (9th Field Brigade RA), 1925; 1st Mechanised Field Artillery Regiment; as ADC to General Sir Edmund Ironside, 2nd Division, 1927; with 14th Light Battery (5th Light Brigade), 1928; 4th Field Battery (4th Field Brigade), 1929; 'I' Battery (1st Cavalry Brigade RHA), 1932; 6th Medium Regiment RA, 1936; as GSO3 HQ Western (Independent) District, Quetta, 1938; at HQ Eastern Command, 1939; as Senior Artillery Instructor at the Tactical School, Poona; in command of 130th Field Regiment RA (14th Indian Division), 1942; as Instructor at the School of Artillery, Bombay, 1943; in command of 115th Field Regiment RA (19th Indian Division), 1944; as Colonel of Artillery Training at the War Office, 1945; 4th Medium Regiment RA; Anti-Aircraft Command; in command of 44th Searchlight Regiment RA, 1949; 56th Anti-Aircraft Brigade; Commander of the Corps of Royal Artillery, Pakistan, 1952; 5th Anti-Aircraft Group, 1954; and as a Retired Officer at the War Office, London, 1956; including good details of his experiences with 14th Indian Division and 19th Indian Division during the Burma Campaigns (1942 - 1943 and 1944 - 1945 respectively) and of his service on the North-West Frontier (1929 - 1939), also describing the life of an officer and his progression through the ranks. Also with the collection are memoirs and photographs relating to the careers of Nicholson's father, Brigadier General G H W Nicholson (1869 - 1916), his brother, General Sir Cameron Nicholson (1898 - 1943), and his uncle, Major A A Gordon, messenger to the Belgian King during the First World War (1904 - 1921).
