Content description

Ts carbon copy instructions for placing a limpet mine (1p) relating to his service as a Leading Seaman in HM Submarine XE 3 on the Jahore Straits in 1945, also photocopies (3pp) of documents recommending him for an award in recognition of his actions in attaching limpet mines to a Japanese cruiser under dangerous circumstances on 31 July 1945 for which he was awarded the Victoria Cross. Together with his training notebook including notes and diagrams on electronics, a letter (2pp, 9 November 1952) containing a brief outline of his career, a certificate acknowledging his Mention in Despatches on 21 December 1943 for his involvement in the Tirpitz Operation (August 1943), certificates bestowing the Coronation Medal (1953) and the Silver Jubilee Medal (1977), photocopies from two published sources (9pp and 3pp) on miniature submarines, an auction catalogue featuring a detailed biography of Magennis and eight black and white photographs including three of Magennis in uniform.
