Series of 42 ms letters written to his wife while serving with the 12th Battalion Royal Marine Light Infantry Brigade at Gallipoli and in the 2nd Hood Battalion, Royal Naval Division, for a brief period in France, 1914 - 1916, providing an insight into his anxiety for his wife, Ellen (Nell), and son back home and including details of his journey to Mudros (26 April 1915), an attack at Achi Baba, casualty rates, his disillusionment with Kitchener's prophecy that the war would be over 80 days after the Battle of Verdun, and his concern about air raids at home; together with an ms letter from the Sister-in-Charge at No 11 Casualty Clearing Station notifying his wife of his death (30 October 1916), letters and notes regarding his death and pension, ts demobilisation order for Nell Fielder from the WRNS (21 August 1919) and official documents relating to himself and his wife.
