61 ms and ts accounts written between 1965 and 1976 describing service with all 3 line battalions of the 8th (City of London) Battalion London Regiment, the Post Office Rifles, covering specifically the experiences of the 1/8th Battalion (140th Brigade, 47th Division) at Abbotts Langley in the UK (from November 1914) and on the Western Front at Auchel (March 1915), Givenchy (April), Festubert (May), Loos (September), Vimy Ridge (March 1916), the Somme at High Wood (September) and the Butte de Warlencourt (October), Ypres at Hill 60 (October), Messines Ridge (June 1917), the Third Battle of Ypres (August - September), Arras (October) and Cambrai at Bourlon Wood (November), the 2/8th Battalion (174th Brigade, 58th Division) in the UK 1914 - 1917 and on the Western Front during the German Retreat to the Hindenburg Line (March 1917), at Bullecourt (May) and the Third Battle of Ypres, and the 8th Battalion (formed by amalgamating the 1/8th and 2/8th in February 1918, remaining in the 174th Brigade, 58th Division) during the German Offensive in March 1918 on the Somme, at Villers Bretonneux (April) and in the final Allied advance (October - November) coming to rest with the Division at Peruwelz after the Armistice, including references to the South African Brigade on the Somme in 1916, the making of the film THE GREAT LOVE (DW Griffiths) with the 3/8th Battalion at Blackdown in 1917, enlistment into the regiment at Bunhill Row depot, the Portuguese and Australian troops at Ypres in 1916 and Christmas celebrations in France.
