Content description

Photocopy of ts memoir (84pp) written in the form of anecdotal reminiscences of his military service from enlistment in 1906 until his period as a guard of German officer POWs in 1919; the memoir is not in any particular order but includes a description of his training and service in India, 1909 - 1914, in the 4th Battalion, The King's Royal Rifle Corps, and then in the Ypres Salient December 1914 - October 1915 (as part of the 80th Brigade, 27th Division), then with the 9th Battalion KRRC (42nd Brigade, 14th Division) on the Somme in 1916, as a Lieutenant in 2nd Battalion, The Rifle Brigade (25th Brigade, 8th Division) in France, June 1917 until his capture whilst acting as commanding officer of 25th Brigade, Light Trench Mortar Battery 8th Division in May 1918 after which he was a POW in Rastatt.
