Ts transcript (373pp plus 9pp photocopies) of her excellent diary (September 1941 - June 1945) written while living in a village near Milan, Italy, as the ca. 50 year old Irish wife of an Italian diplomat, who was entirely at liberty, in the format of a series of letters to a relative in America, it records war news (gleaned from the BBC) and the concomitant rise and fall in her morale, critical comments on the war, on the Fascists, the Italians and the Germans, descriptions of her and others lives in Italy before and after the Armistice, the feelings and reactions to war news among Italians, also describing in detail help she gave directly to Allied prisoners of war after September 1943 in escaping in escaping to Switzerland, seeing Mussolini and Clara Petacci's corpses on 30 April 1945 and life under Allied occupation.
