Content description

Two ts letters written to an author in 1985 by a former naval rating, one (4pp) giving his first-hand account as a survivor of the sinking of HMS ROYAL OAK, the flagship of the 2nd Battle Squadron, Home Fleet, by a U-boat in Scapa Flow on 14 October 1939, and the other (3pp) recording his experiences in the destroyer HMS VIMY during the evacuations from Boulogne and Dunkirk in May 1940; together with a photograph of the writer in naval uniform.
