Label
In late June 1944 Freedman crossed to Normandy to work on a painting celebrating the artificial floating harbour codenamed ‘Mulberry B’, established by the British at Arromanches. This large painting, teeming with detail, pays tribute to this remarkable piece of engineering, a vital part of the allied supply lines. The prefabricated breakwater, berths and floating roadways of ‘Mulberry’, ensured the successful continuation of the allied offensive after the landings on ‘D-Day’, 6th June. This was despite serious storm damage received between 19th and 23rd June.
